Worden Recreation Center to be completed in 2025
The Gymnasium that served Worden High School for many years is being converted into a recreation center to serve the community of Worden. Illinois and surrounding areas. the original building was constructed in 1938 of reinforced-concrete walls and a combination of steel and wood framing for the roof system. The original concrete is in beautiful condition and the building has a monumental presence. Project consisted of refinishing and repairing the original, maple hardwood gym floor. The building envelope was improved by adding R40 insulation above the ceiling. The locker rooms and shower area for both men and women have been updated. There is also a renovated, unisex, ADA (American's for Disabilities Act) toilet room. All the plumbing, mechanical and electrical systems have been brought up to code. The gymnasium itself has new, high-efficiency LED lighting. New floor markings in the main gym accommodate basketball, volleyball and pickle ball. The stage area has state-of-the art exercise equipment. SMS (Shepherd, Morgan & Schwab) led by Walt Blotegvogel is the prime consultant on the project. Schuette Design, architects was responsible for architectural, structural, plumbing, mechanical and electrical design.
