Under the leadership of the director, Steve Wagler, and the Illinois District, LWCC in Carlinville, Il., experienced a steadily increasing rate of growth during the regular season but not during the off-season. In order to promote off-season usage of the entire facility, additional interior recreation space was needed.
The firms of Schuette Design, Woolpert, and McDonough Engineering were commissioned to design the now completed Activity Building at LWCC. The building has been a tremendous success in every way. The new facility provides racket ball, two gymnasiums, weight room, indoor pool, locker rooms, and meeting room downstairs. Additional meeting rooms and restroom facilities are available upstairs.
Volunteer labor for this project was donated by MAPS (Mission America Project Services) and Sowers.

Before the new millennium began, it became apparent that the existing, Illinois District Office was too small and out-of-date. Leadership of the Illinois District chose to construct a new office on the existing location. The Building was built in four phases. Phase I of the new building was constructed without demolition. Phase II , Phase III, and Phase IV required demolition of a portion of the existing building. All Phases are complete and occupied.

After the expansion of other LWCC Retreat Center facilities, sleeping space for guests was inadequate. Clark Hall and Parkside were set up primarily for dorm style sleeping. This worked very well for kids camps and teen camps. However, there was an increased need for the privacy that motel-style sleeping rooms provided. Sleeping space for Family Camp was inadequate with a large percentage of guests staying in motels in Carlinville or other nearby towns. This diminished the camp experience. In response to this need, LWC C Leadership decided to add an additional 75 rooms to their existing 50 lodge rooms.
The (3) three story addition is an attractive addition to the campground and has been used extensively for Family Camp and other camps year round.

The beach front development, at Lake Williamson, is one of the most exciting features of the entire campus. Beach area offers swimming, zip-line, water trampoline, blob, giant flume and water slide. Schuette Design developed detailed drawings for the flume and waterslide. The Giant flume delivers the participant from tree top height to lake water in a few seconds. These drawings were used to obtain state approvals and for construction. Each summer, LWCC is host to Christian Kid’s Camps, Teen camps, Band camps and Sports camps. The beach front is the main, recreation attraction for young people.
